Insurgent Countdown and Giveaway: 4 Days Left
Welcome, readers, to Day 4 in The Book Basement's Insurgent Countdown! Today's topic is similar books, AKA "I've read Divergent. Now what?"
I know a few bloggers do this type of thing in each of their reviews, but I don't. So this post is dedicated to books that a fan of Divergent might enjoy!
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (YA) - Okay. I know there are people who compare Divergent to The Hunger Games. And yes, I am recommending it to Divergent fans, but that doesn't mean these books are alike. They're both set in dystopian worlds, yes, but other than that, they're pretty darn different. I love The Hunger Games and I'm definitely sure fans of Divergent will as well.
Legend by Marie Lu (YA) - I kind of see a lot of Tris in the main protagonist of this book, June. June is very proactive and smart, which I think relates well with Tris. So if you're a fan of Divergent, I think you'll enjoy this action-y, dystopian book!
Delirium by Lauren Oliver (YA) - If you're a fan of Divergent that has a huge spot for romance, Delirium is your book! There's the dystopian government and the limited life, but then there's also a thrilling romance, as well as some scary action scenes!
The Giver by Lois Lowry (MG) - I'm not sure if this book is middle grade or young adult, but I think it's middle grade. Nonetheless, Divergent actually reminded me of The Giver quite a bit. The government is sort of alike, and although this book is not quite as action packed and doesn't have a dazzling romance, I'm positive fans of Divergent will like this book!
Those are my book recommendations to a Divergent fan! Do you have any recommendations to a Divergent fan? What do you think of mine? Answer the questions in the comments to be entered in the giveaway! Or you can tweet about it. Fill out the form!
Day 5. Day 6. Day 7.
Day 3's topic will be my dream cast for Divergent!

ReplyDeleteI loved the Hunger Games. There's so many dystopian books out now. I recommend Starters and Masque of the Red Death.
ReplyDeleteHa yeah, after I watched The Hunger Games with my friends, I told them to read Divergent! The Giver is middle grade, I think! I remember my teacher reading it out loud to the class in fifth grade. Great list, Sophia! :)
ReplyDeleteSo agree with The Hunger Games and Delirium! Also, the Matched series by Allie Condie and I'm guessing Article 5 too- haven't read it yet but it sounds GREAT and like it's for fans of Divergent. Great post, Sophia :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it yet, but I have heard a lot of good things about the Maze Runner by James Dashner.
ReplyDeleteShatter me by Tahereh Mafi :)
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm actually proud to say I've read some of the books you mentioned. I'm not a fan of dystopia but lately I've been reading more and more of this genre. I've read The Hunger Games and Delirium, but not the rest of your selection. The one I'm more excited about is Legend!
ReplyDeleteBut first goes Divergent, of course, since I still haven't read it :( Hoping to do so soon!
I think I'd recommend Enclave by Ann Aguirre. Pretty good book.
ReplyDeleteI think Delirium is a good one to tide people over from Divergent. A different sort of dystopian but they share this bright and strong intensity that I think fans of both books will love. GOSH. I cannot WAIT for Insurgent! I have it pre-ordered, but DARN IT, May 1st feels like FOREVER and a half.
ReplyDeletei think my recommendation would be Across the Universe, by Beth Revis :)

ReplyDeleteI loved Legend and have only read the first book in The Hunger Games trilogy but I loved it as well. Article 5 was another great dystopian.
ReplyDeleteI'd recommend The Hunger Games (I don't compare them at all!!), Delirium, and I think there was another but I'm forgetting it now... AH! I would recommend Eve. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! :D
I love the Hunger Games series and Delirium :) !!
ReplyDeleteI was a bit disappointed in Legend though :( !!
You should read Birthmarked by Caragh M O'Brien if you haven't already, it's an amazing dystopian book and there's some romance in it too .. Prized which is the second book is even greater (more romance in this one and it is awesome) ! The heroine, Gaya is amazing and the love interest, Leon is *swoooonnnnnn* !!
I definitely would have recommended the same as you! Hunger Games, Legend, and Delirium for sure!
