Insurgent Countdown and Giveaway: 6 Days Left

Welcome to Day 6 of The Book Basement's Insurgent Countdown! As usual, there's a form at the end of this post for the giveaway of copies of Divergent and Insurgent!

Today's topic is Tris & Four.

Wait, you might be thinking. Wasn't yesterday Tris & Four?

Well, yes, kind of. It was the characters individually. Today, I'm focusing on another one of my favorite things about Divergent: the romance.

I'm a romantic. I only read YA books with romance--which, luckily, is basically all of them. I appreciate a good romance story, and I was so surprised by the one in Divergent. It was absolutely fabulous!

When I think of YA romance, I think of two things: insta-love and love triangles. Surprisingly, Divergent has neither! One of the reasons why I love the romance in Divergent is because it's slow building. In the beginning, you're not exactly sure who the love interest is going to be (unless you know before even picking the book up, of course!). Tris and Four slowly begin to talk, opening up to each other just a little bit at a time. And what I love so much is that it starts out as a friendship. They are equals. Four is never condescending. Tris is never a damsel in distress. They have mutual respect for each other, which I think is the coolest thing since sliced bread.

What I mean by mutual respect - no one is higher than the other. They treat and praise each other equally. Example:

Tris thinks, "Four crouches by the side of the bed, and watches me. I see no sympathy in his eyes. I would have been disappointed if I had." (Page 284.)

Four says to Tris, "You aren't giving me that look. Like I'm a kicked puppy or something." (Page 338.)

Pretty equal, right? Ah. They're just SO perfect together! Even though both characters go through so many obstacles, neither of them pity the other.

Anyway. There's no insta-love. And there's no love triangle either. Tris and Four are interested in only each other, and there's never any hint of a love triangle. How refreshing is that!

To stop my rambling before it turns into a novel, I'm ending this post here, haha. Obviously, I love Tris and Four together. I think they're perfect. They're my OTP, without a doubt! What do you think of Tris and Four? Could you ever imagine them with anyone else but each other? If you haven't read Divergent, which fictional couple is your OTP (one true pairing)?

Thanks for stopping by for Day 6! The form for today is HERE! Make sure to leave a comment and/or tweet about the post. :) Remember, a comment on each post gets you more entries, as does tweeting each day! The giveaway is accumulative. Here's Day 7's post.

Day 5 will be what other bloggers have to say about Divergent!

  1. I have to agree! Fantastic discussion post and I am SO with you on the insta-love...while some people think it's smoky hot and dead romantic, my first reaction is 'bleh'. This is partially why I loved Divergent :)

  2. I'm such a Tris/Four shipper. I can't imagine them with someone else. And I'm so happy there was no love traingle, I hope it stays that way in Insurgent. I really don't need unnecessary drama.

  6. Thank you for a great giveaway! I am hanging my head in shame and admitting that I have NOT read Divergent yet but am going to the library today! My teen LOVED the book and is DYING for the next book so I better get reading. I read a lot of what she does so we can have discussions and also to keep up on what she's doing/interested in!

  8. oh my gosh YES to this post, Sophia! I really like how there's no insta-love and triangles here too, it's so refreshing! What's even MORE refreshing is that they're actually equals, which is ridiculously rare in YA. I like how they balance each other out! Definitely can't imagine them with anyone else. :)

  9. I'm not sure I have one true pairing. so I go with my safe choice and first choice ever: Rose and Dimitri from Vampire Academy :)

  10. My OPT is definitely Four and Tris! I think they're just perfect for each other. I absolutely hate insta-love and badly done love-triangles. So I was super excited to find out that there's not going to be a love triangle in Insurgent [I knew these a long time before all the ARCs were given out- the author mentioned it on her blog]. There are some cases where love triangles come into play in the second book, so I'm super excited that it's not going to be that case in Insurgent.

Four and Tris were definitely the highlights of Divergent for me, and so was their romance. I'm not a huge fan of romance in books, to be honest, so I shocked myself by loving the romance in Divergent. I can't wait to see more of them in Insurgent!!

  16. I adore Tris and Four together. Four makes me swoony, yes, but I know him and Tris are totally meant to be together so I don't even get jealous :P

  17. Definitely one of my favourite YA couples ever :) !! I love the fact that they're equal too, it kind of reminds me of Rose and Dimitri in Vampire Academy (my favourite couple ever, lol) !! I also love Jace and Clary from The Mortal Instruments series =)

  18. They don't bother me but I'm not a huge fan of them together.

  19. I have not read it yet, but am curious after reading all the reviews

  20. I like the romance for the same reason! One of my pet peeves in YA romance is the insta-love that seems mostly physical and not really built on anything. I like that Tris and Four's relationship builds and grows and isn't a short term infatuation or something.

  21. I would absolutley be heart broken if they ever broke up! I love them as a couple!

  22. I haven't read the book but I think Rayna and Toraf from Of Poseidon is my OTP!!

Well...Green Arrow and Black Canary is my OTP, OTP...so is Zatanna and Batman...and MANY OTHERS!

  23. Tris and Four are so AMAZING! They're both so brave and badass, I love them!
Other OTP's are Po and Katsa from Graceling!

  24. I think the book was written in a way so that the reader could not imagine Tris pairing with anyone but Four. They are just the yin to the other's yang. Perfectly paired. In terms of other OTP's...I'd have to say Jace & Clary...and also Elizabeth Bennett and Darcy! lol :P

  25. I loved Tris and Four as a couple!

  26. Tris and Four are definitely my otp. They're my favorite couple I've ever read about!
